Here's
where we get all philosophical about ads. Which some folks
might find a bit sad. "Philosophize about literature.
Art. Even politics. But advertisements? Yikes." But
that's the very point. We live and breathe ads. When we
sit down to relax with our favorite TV show we study the
ads. We dissect them. We analyze them. We try to reverse-engineer
them to figure out the marketing plan behind them.
So what
is our basic philosophy on ads?
Simple.
Know the product. Know the target even better. Realize that
people DON'T LIKE ADS. They are an intrusion in their lives.
Entertain them before you sell to them. Overstatement creates
resistance. Ideas, on the other hand, create a conversation
- between ad and reader. A conversation creates a connection.
A connection creates affinity. Affinity creates a brand.
A brand means many sales. Not just one.
HUGE BOLD
TYPE and lots of adjectives are annoying. We like to think
of ads as people at a party. Who do you gravitate to? The
bloviator with the loud voice and louder necktie? Or the
soft-spoken, artfully-dressed BUT INTERESTING guy or gal?
Think about that for a minute. Then consider the last time
you thumbed through a magazine. Or watched TV. Or listened
to the radio. Hummmm.
Yep. That's
our philosophy and we can apply it to your company.
